Tea India, the brand making a range of infused teas with healing properties, has expanded its range with the addition of Tumeric Chai, and Waitrose is the first retailer to stock the new offering, Tea India told NutritionInvestor. The product is now found in 150 retail stores across the UK.

The brand was founded by the Harris Freeman Group in the US as a result of the company’s Indian heritage. Harris Freeman is today a global resource for tea, spices, and flexible packaging.

Lisa Worthington, Tea India head of marketing, explained that the company has been in the UK since 2013. “We are an £800k brand and growing,” she said.

Worthington pointed out that Tumeric can be used to make golden milk, which is a firm feature in Ayurvedic medicine, used as a remedy for anything from a sore throat to a sleepless night.

Medicinal infusion

Tea India said the new Tumeric Chai tea includes 40% turmeric, ginger, fenugreek, galangal, cinnamon and India psyllium.

Turmeric is a flowering plant and deemed one of the most effective nutritional supplements in the market.

Curcumin, its most active compound, is known to have scientifically-proven health benefits, including the potential to prevent heart disease, Alzheimer’s and cancer. It’s also known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and may also help improve symptoms of depression and arthritis.

Traditionally a comforting bedtime drink, golden milk has been used by mums to soothe children to sleep for centuries.

“Our new Turmeric Chai is another delicious and authentically India blend. This can be drunk as an infusion or simmered in milk or a plant-based alternative for a coffee shop Turmeric latte experience,” said Worthington.

In the UK, Tea India sells a wide range of Chai teas in most of the major UK retailers, and online on the company website.

The range are made with Assam tea and spices, including Masala, Turmeric, Cardamom, Coconut and Ginger. Tea India also produces a range of Ayurvedic teas with herbs and spices.
