US: GFI appoints new president

Ilya Sheyman joins the alt-protein non-profit from public policy movement MoveOn

Ilya Sheyman will lead GFI’s programmatic and administrative operations in the US.

Leading non-profit authority for the alternative protein sector The Good Food Institute (GFI) has appointed former executive director of public policy advocacy movement MoveOn Ilya Sheyman as its president.

Sheyman will work alongside GFI founder Bruce Friedrich and lead the entity’s programmatic and administrative operations in the US.

As executive director at MoveOn, Sheyman previously led issue advocacy and fundraising efforts. He has also served as a strategic consultant for non-profits, corporations, foundations and public interest campaigns, including work on the American Rescue Plan and bipartisan infrastructure frameworks.

On his new role, Sheyman said: “GFI has been driving this effort, and I can’t wait to join this transformative and bipartisan work that welcomes all to the table.

“Transforming our food system will require the coming together of people from all walks of life across government, business, academia, advocates, and consumers,” Sheyman said.

Freidrich said: “Ilya is brilliant with both strategy and execution, and I’m extremely excited to welcome him to this role leading the GFI US team.

“With Ilya in this new position, I look forward to having more time to build deeper alliances across the global spectrum of movements focused on climate change mitigation, biodiversity preservation and global health,” he added.

Sheyman will join GFI on 22 February.
