Plant-based barbecue business plots significant distribution increase in North America as new venue opens in North Carolina
Barvecue has opened what it claims is the “world’s largest plant-based smokehouse” as it scales production of its alt-protein barbecue offering.
The North Carolina-based production facility is 10,000 square feet in size with an initial production capacity of 800,000 pounds of wood-smoked plant-based meat.
The start-up, established in 2017, expects to employ a team of 15 staffers to further increase production.
Barvecue is currently available in 360 Sprouts Farmers Market stores across the US and is planning to increase its distribution by 100% by the end of the year.
Zack Werner, co-founder and COO, of Barvecue said: “We’re thrilled to increase production capacity of our wood-smoked, plant-based proteins to meet this demand as we expand into over 700 grocery stores by year-end.
“Our goal is to make great tasting food that just happens to be plant-based. Opening our new production facility gives Barvecue the ability to share our food with more and more people,” Werner said.
