FaZe Clan takes ownership stake in meal replacement brand CTRL

Meal replacement company CTRL has announced that FaZe Clan has taken an ownership stake in the business. Faze Clan is deemed one of the world’s most prominent and influential gaming organisation, and the deal is the first of its kind for the brand founded by gamer FaZe Temperrr 10 years ago.

“By taking a stake in CTRL, we can bring much-needed attention to the importance of better nutrition and provide a healthy option built especially for gamers by people who understand this community best,” said Lee Trink, FaZe Clan chief executive.

Under the new ownership, FaZe Clan is committed to putting its marketing prowess, including 230 million followers and devoted fans, behind CTRL to grow the brand globally, and CTRL is set to collaborate with FaZe Clan on new flavours for its meal replacement shakes.

CTRL is the brainchild of Major League Gaming co-founder and esports business legend Sundance DiGiovanni; Skyler Johnson, a serial entrepreneur, former professional gamer and founder of Team Envyus; and entertainment executive and attorney Glenn Delgado, who most recently served as general counsel for Major League Gaming.

“FaZe Clan is the ultimate embodiment of esports as a lifestyle brand, which has come to include everything from music to art to clothing,” said Johnson. “So far, nutrition for gamers hasn’t really been part of the conversation. CTRL fills that niche and brings this topic to the forefront,” he added.

CTRL brings nutrition for e-gaming

Sundance DiGiovanni, CTRL co-founder, recognised that a few years ago, nobody believed that esports was ready for prime time. “Now, it’s a major force in both culture and business,” he said.

CTRL claims its line of powdered meal replacement shakes “tastes like the bottom of a cereal bowl”.

On the nutrition front, products contain proteins, carbohydrates, fibre, healthy fats, naturally occurring BCAA’s, 22+ vitamins and minerals, prebiotic fibre to promote healthy gut bacteria, medium-chain triglyceride (MCTs) to support appetite control, and digestive enzymes to support healthy digestion.

“People generally think of gamers as kids in their mom’s basement drinking soda and eating potato chips,” said FaZe Clan founder FaZe Temperrr.
