Gathered Foods, the parent company of plant-based seafood brand Good Catch, has announced the appointment of Christine Mei as chief executive officer. Mei joins the US-based company with over 30 years’ experience in the global consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry.

Mei has built her career across a wide spectrum of roles in marketing, strategy, sales, and operations, and has held various leadership positions at companies including Beiersdorf, Royal Philips, The Coca-Cola Company, Nike and Procter & Gamble.

Most recently, Mei has been an investor and mentor for SKU, a CPG accelerator based in Austin, TX, where she advised start-up companies.

Plant-Based Fish-Free Tuna is Good Catch’s flagship product, which is available across the US in naked in water, oil & herbs, and Mediterranean flavours.

“I’m so energised about the tremendous potential for the Good Catch brand,” said Mei. “The future of the entire plant-based food industry is on a trajectory of positive disruption,” she added. “I’m really looking forward to collaborating with co-founders Chris Kerr, Chad and Derek Sarno to set Good Catch onto its next curve of growth.”

Kerr, who previously held the chief executive role, will remain active and involved in the company serving as executive chair, working alongside Mei and the team to steer the growth of Gathered Foods.

“At Gathered Foods, we thrive on collaboration and bringing together creative minds to join our mission to make a difference,” said Kerr. “We’re beyond excited to have been able to attract someone like Christine to lead our enterprise. The future of our brand is bright, and we are excited for what’s to come with Christine at the helm.”

With Mei’s appointment, Good Catch plans to continue its momentum in the plant-based protein sector.

Following a $36.8 million Series B financing round that Good Catch closed in May this year, the brand expanded its distribution footprint on an international scale, securing shelf space at the UK supermarket Tesco.

The Series B round included celebrity investors Woody Harrelson, Shailene Woodley, Paris Hilton and Lance Bass.

In March this year, Good Catch embarked on a joint distribution venture with Bumble Bee Foods, working on the sales, distribution and logistics for the Good Catch brand.

Earlier this month, the brand announced the launch of its new line of frozen appetisers and entrees across the US’ East Coast with further distribution rolling out later this year.
